Topic
TMJ Dysfunction and Occlusal Splints
Aim
This lecture will teach you the key features of occlusion, how to manage TMD and when to use a variety of splints for TMD, patients who clench or brux, including the use of Michigan splints.
Objectives
To understand the important features of occlusion and how to check the occlusion on restorations.
To understand when and how to intervene to manage TMD and bruxism.
Appreciate when to use different types of occlusal splint.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the lecture participants will be able to:
- Check the occlusion correctly on direct and indirect restorations
- Treat patients with TMD
- Manage clenchers and bruxists
- Take the clinical records for each splint including impressions, jaw registrations and facebow records where necessary
- GDC learning outcomes C,D
