The LDC engages proactively with NHS England, Integrated Care Boards, Local Dental Networks, and other statutory and professional organisations to ensure that the interests of Somerset practitioners are accurately represented. We provide informed local insight into the practical implications of national policy decisions, supporting commissioners in developing approaches that are fair, evidence-based, and workable in day-to-day practice.
Equally, engagement with practitioners themselves remains central to our remit. Through structured meetings, consultations, and regular communications, we enable colleagues to contribute their perspectives and raise concerns on matters that affect their professional and clinical practice. This two-way dialogue ensures that the LDC’s advocacy is grounded in the experiences of the profession and that dentists remain fully informed about policy developments, contractual changes, and wider service transformation.

The Committee also recognises the importance of engaging across the wider health and social care landscape. By contributing to multi-professional forums and integrated care discussions, the LDC promotes dentistry as an essential component of population health and seeks to ensure that the voice of the dental profession is fully considered in system-wide planning.
In addition, we actively build collaborative relationships with educational bodies, professional associations, and patient groups. This broader engagement strengthens our ability to influence policy, improve professional support, and advocate for service improvements that benefit both practitioners and the public.
