Presentation One: Treating Periodontitis

Presenter: Dominic Sinson

Aim

To understand the contemporary management of periodontitis and appropriate referral pathways.

Objectives

1. To provide a summary of the 2018 Classification System.
2. To understand management pathways for the periodontal patient prior to referral.
3. To identify key recommendations from the BSP periodontal treatment guidelines.
4. To recognise ‘red flags’ and case complexities indicating the need for specialist referral.
5. To understand recommendations for the prevention and management of peri-implant disease.

Learning Outcomes (GDC Outcome C)

Following this presentation, participants will be familiar with contemporary periodontal classification, treatment guidelines, and referral pathways for managing periodontitis and peri-implant disease in practice.

Presentation Two: Restoring Posterior Root-Filled Teeth

Presenters: Jon Cowie and Colin McGurk

Aim

To understand how to overcome the challenges of restoring posterior root-filled teeth.

Objectives

1. To understand the challenges of restoring structurally compromised teeth.
2. To explore problem-solving strategies and key clinical decisions, including management of the deep margin.
3. To consider endodontic implications in relation to tooth biomechanics.
4. To evaluate the need for cuspal coverage and methods of delivery.
5. To recognise potential failure modes and their consequences for remaining tooth structure.

Following this presentation, participants will be familiar with the factors contributing to outcomes when restoring structurally compromised posterior teeth in practice.
