Earlier this year NHS England implemented multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the UEC Directory of Services (DoS). Once fully implemented, MFA will replace all logins to the UEC Directory of Services. This supports the wider NHS England cyber security agenda, and will help to increase the security, stability, and efficiency of the DoS service.
Users will have until 31st July 2025 to change the details from your current DoS login details to MFA.
This change will impact all users. This includes any dental practices that have been granted access to the Directory of Services, for the purpose of maintaining urgent dental care appointment provision. Although direct access for dental services to update the UEC DoS database is not essential for this, we understand that this is an approach taken by at least one of the regions. It is important to note that dental practices will need to contact their ICB / CSU to identify their local Registrations Authority Agent, to help with setting up their Care Identity Service account. Where the ICBs are locally supporting this process by collating practice details for MFA setup, it is important that practices respond timely to the request to meet the 31 July deadline.
Care Identity Service accounts require an individual’s email address. This should be either an nhs.net address or other approved domain address, and further information regarding acceptable email addresses is available at https://digital.nhs.uk/services/care-identity-service/applications-and-services/apply-for-care-id/care-identity-email-domain-allow-list.
